Wilshere keen on Rooney

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has told ESPN that “it would be amazing” if Arsenal were to sign Wayne Rooney.

The Manchester United striker has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer after it was reported that he had handed in a transfer request, though Rooney himself has rejected those claims.

He is set for talks with new manager David Moyes on Wednesday after the Scot officially began work with the Premier League champions yesterday.

The Gunners are also thought to be closing in on a deal for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, another player who has the Wilshere seal of approval.

He said: “You look at the type of players like Higuain we are trying to bring in and you have got to be encouraged.”
One striker who will definitely be on Arsenal’s books next season is France under 20 international Yaya Sanogo, who completed his free transfer from Auxerre yesterday evening.

The 20 year old scored ten goals in just thirteen Ligue 2 appearances last season, and is set to play in this evenings Under 20 World Cup quarter final against hosts Turkey, having scored in two of France’s three group games.

Elsewhere, Johan Djourou has joined Hamburg on a season long loan with a view to a permanent move.

The Swiss defender spent the second half of last season with fellow Bundesliga side Hannover 96.
