Walcott hoping for striking role

Theo Walcott’s chances of being deployed as a centre forward for England in tomorrow evening’s friendly with Brazil have improved, after both Jermaine Defoe and Daniel Sturridge were ruled out through injury.

The 23 year old, who has hailed the current squad ‘the best’ since his international career began seven years ago, will compete with Manchester United duo Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney to lead the line at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Walcott has revealed that a 90 minutes conversation with Gunners legend Thierry Henry helped him with the pressures surrounding the past few weeks; a time where it looked as if he may have left the Emirates.

Gervinho is set to return to North London after Ivory Coast’s quarter-final defeat to Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Arsenal forward got two goals in four games for the Elephants whilst out in South Africa.

Napoli striker Edison Cavani has distanced himself from rumours that he is set to join the club in the summer, saying that he ‘didn’t know anything personally’ about the possible transfer, whilst AZ Alkmaar midfielder Adam Maher has also ruled out any potential move to North London.

Elsewhere, 18 year old goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook has joined Blue Square Bet South side Chelmsford City on a month’s loan.

Cook made seventeen appearances in the Premier Academy League last season.
