Valenica considering a move for Giroud

Valencia are lining up a bid for Olivier Giroud, as they look for a replacement for Tottenham Hotspur-bound Roberto Soldado, the Express understands.

Soldado is expected to complete his move to White Hart Lane in the next twenty-four hours, leaving the La Liga club desperately searching for a new striker ahead of the new season.

Reports in Spain say that the club have firmly fixed their sights on Giroud, who scored eighteen goals in all competitions during his debut season in English football, though they have also been linked with moves for Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez, Helder Postiga of Real Zaragoza and Brazil internationals Fred and Leandro Damiao.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star have claimed that the Gunners have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric.

The 27 year old has failed to make a real impression since signing from Tottenham Hotspur last summer, and has also been linked with a return to White Hart Lane as part of a deal that would see Gareth Bale move in the opposite direction.

However, with Arsene Wenger failing to make a big name summer signing thus far, he has reportedly turned his attention to the Croatia international.
