The search for a new number one goes on…

Arsenal’s search for a new goalkeeper has been the main subject of speculation across the media in the last twenty four hours, with a number of shot-stoppers being strongly linked with a move to the Emirates.

The Telegraph claims that the Gunners are leading the chase for Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic, who would cost a reported £15 million.

It is thought that Arsenal have the edge of Manchester United, as the Bosnian international would not be guaranteed to be first choice should he move to Old Trafford.

The Express have reported that Arsenal and Manchester United will battle for the signing of St Etienne shot-stopper Stephane Ruffier.

The 26 year old, who has one international cap, is also being monitored by a host of Serie A sides, while in his native France, only Paris Saint Germain and Monaco have the means to make an approach.

However, perharps the most intriguing rumour doing the rounds in the press is that reported by the Metro, who claim that Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas is a target for the Gunners.

The World Cup winning goalkeeper is not currently first choice at the Bernabeu having lost his place to Diego Lopez in January, though his situation could change should Jose Mourinho leave the club in the summer.
