Sagna set for third new contract offer

Arsenal are lining up a fresh contract offer for right back Bacary Sagna in a hope of finally persuading him to remain at the club, the Mail Online understands.

Sczcesny and Giroud to return for Southampton clash

Arsene Wenger is set to recall Wojciech Sczcesny and Olivier Giroud to the Arsenal starting line-up for this evening’s game at Southampton.

The pair were rested for Friday night’s 4-0 FA Cup fourth round win over Coventry City on Friday evening, though Giroud did make a cameo appearance, getting on the score sheet despite not coming on until the 79th minute.

Midefielders Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta and defender Thomas Vermaelen are all set to return to the match-day squad after recovering from their respective injuries, though Jack Wilshere is doubtful with an ankle problem.

Meanwhile, the club have agreed a deal with sportswear company Puma, according to the Mail Online.

The German manufacturer will become the Gunners kit suppliers from next season, ending their twenty year partnership with Nike.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United have accepted an offer for midfielder Yohan Cabaye from Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint Germain, Sky Sports understands.

Arsenal had been interested in securing the services of the France international themsleves, and saw a bid of around £10m rejected back in August.

However, the 28 year old now looks set to secure a move back to his home country, after two-and-a-half seasons with Alan Pardew’s side.

Arsenal to face Liverpool in fifth round after brushing aside Coventry

Arsenal eased past Coventry City in the FA Cup fourth round Friday evening, beating the League One side 4-0 to set up a mouth-watering tie with Liverpool.

A first half double from Lukas Podolski gave the Gunners a 2-0 lead before the break, while late goals from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla but the result beyond doubt.

Arsenal beat Fulham to stay top

Arsenal won for a sixth game in succession after beating Fulham 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Santi Cazorla bagged a second half brace to secure the points for Arsene Wenger’s men, who remain top of the division, one point clear of second place Manchester City, who beat Cardiff City 4-2 on Saturday and two ahead of Chelsea, who stay third after their 3-1 win against champions Manchester United yesterday afternoon.

The Gunners will now turn their attention to Friday evening’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Coventry City, before returning to Premier League action at Southampton on Tuesday week.

Meanwhile, reported Arsenal target Alvaro Morata has ruled out a move from Real Madrid to the Premier League, according to the Mirror.

The Spain U21 international, who came off the bench to score in Real’s 5-0 win over Real Betis on Saturday afternoon, has insisted that he is happy with life at the Bernabeu.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint Germain are preparing a big money offer for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, the Metro understands.

Cabaye, who like Morata was on the score-sheet at the weekend, netting twice as Alan Pardew’s men beat West Ham United, has also been linked with a move to both Arsenal and Manchester United.

Gunners through despite defeat

Arsenal missed out on top spot in Group F after losing 2-0 to Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo yesterday evening.

Goals from former Gunners target Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Callejon secured victory for Rafael Benitez’s men, who joined Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund on twelve points but miss out due to their head to head record against both teams.
