Can Olivier Giroud fire Arsenal to Premier League-FA Cup double?

Over halfway through the season and Arsenal look well placed to challenge for multiple trophies in 2016. The Gunners are currently fighting at the top of the Premier League table and secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory over Championship side Burnley at the weekend.

At the beginning of the campaign, plenty of supporters were critical of Arsenal’s transfer policy. Arsene Wenger opted to place of all his trust in Olivier Giroud as the main striker instead of moving for the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Karim Benzema in the summer transfer window – a decision that was not universally accepted. However, after managing to open his Premier League scoring account a couple of weeks ago, the Frenchman claims that the strike has given him the necessary confidence to go on and become a good player for the club. Wenger: Giroud needed goal

Considering the fact that the likes of Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla have taken to the Premier League so easily, there has been a lot of pressure heaped on the shoulders of Olivier Giroud over recent weeks. However, the Frenchman grabbed his first league goal at the weekend and Arsene Wenger says that this strike will do wonders for his confidence. Continue reading

Grimandi: Giroud WAS bought to replace Van Persie

Prior to Robin Van Persie’s announcement last week, the general noises coming out of the Emirates Stadium indicated that Arsene Wenger wanted RVP to play alongside his new signing Olivier Giroud. However, comments from Giles Grimandi suggest otherwise, with the Arsenal scout claiming that Giroud was brought in to compensate for the potential loss of RVP. Continue reading

Giroud: I’m not here to replace RVP

While the majority of Gunners fans are delighted with the signing of Olivier Giroud, a few are slightly concerned that he has been bought in a bid to soften the blow of Robin Van Persie’s possible departure. However, the former Montpellier man insists that he has no intention of replacing RVP and hopes that he can play alongside the Dutchman next term. Continue reading

He has been linked with a move to the Gunners for the past few months, yet Olivier Giroud finally completed his transfer to the Emirates Stadium this week in a deal reported to be worth £13m. Wenger – Giroud deal is close

Arsenal poised for Giroud capture

After weeks of speculation, it looks as though Arsene Wenger has finally got his man and landed his second attacking signing of the summer. The newspapers have been focussed on the Gunners’ pursuit of Olivier Giroud for some time now, yet it looks as though the transfer has finally come to fruition after Arsenal agreed a £12m package for the striker.

Giroud, who is currently representing France in Euro 2012, has been a revelation at Montpellier since signing for the French Ligue 1 outfit for just £1.7m in 2010. It seems incredible to think that back then Giroud was their record signing, yet they are now selling him on the back of a terrific season after winning the title in France’s top division.

However, it has been clear for some time that Giroud has seen his future elsewhere, with his agent constantly remarking to the press that he has been in talks with other clubs. All throughout this process it has been Arsenal who have remained favourites and it is widely expected that the club will confirm the transfer in the very near future. Initially, it was understood that Euro 2012 could delay the move, yet that no longer seems to be the case and the deal should be announced later this week.

Having also secured the signature of Lukas Podolski, Arsene Wenger seems to be slowly reshaping his front line as he prepares for another hunt for silverware. However, Arsenal fans needn’t be alarmed that this deal will signal the end of Robin Van Persie, with the Gunners still confident of persuading the Dutchman to stay. In fact, it is understood that Wenger has signed Giroud to play in a front three alongside Van Persie and Podolski. If anything, it is hoped that this ambition will persuade RVP that his future is at the Emirates Stadium and that the club are serious about winning trophies.

Giroud on Gunners’ radar?

Newspaper reports are suggesting that Arsene Wenger has already lined up a deal for a new striker – even if Robin Van Persie pledges his future to the club. It’s understood that Wenger is quickly trying to complete a deal for Montpellier frontman Olivier Giroud, with some reports hinting that the Gunners may offer Marouane Chamakh as a sweetener in the transfer.
