Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has come in the defence of countryman Mesut Ozil, who was deemed a liability by club legend Steven Gerrard last week.
The Germany international had one of his not so impressive performances for Arsenal last weekend as the club succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City. While there were a few players who failed to show up, Ozil was once again made the scapegoat for the showing with BT Sport pundits Gerrard and Martin Keown criticising the World Cup winner.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of the Arsenal game, Klopp was full of praise for his compatriot who he feels is ‘an outstandingly skilled boy’. He added that the 28-year-old remains a player to watch for during Sunday’s game whilst insisting that the attacker is treated in a different way back in Germany.
He said: “I remember the 3-3 we played against Arsenal here. Without Ozil and Olivier Giroud, we would have won 3-0. One long ball, Giroud gave it to Mesut and it was five players on him, no chance. He is an outstandingly skilled boy. I don’t watch Arsenal often enough to be right to have an opinion about it. If people are not happy with him, I don’t know why. ‘There is no doubt in Germany about the quality of Mesut Ozil. Germany is really blessed with a lot of world-class players in his position and he is a fix in the German national team, so that should be a sign.” Continue reading
It seems that Arsenal currently has a team that can allow them to challenge for the title.
Indeed during recent weeks the team has hit top form and currently winning their games comfortably. New players such as Mustafi and Xhaka have adapted quickly to the pace of the English game and have definitely strengthened the team.
Players such as Ozil and Cazorla are also playing well, and this is helping the Gunners win games comfortably. This was particularly true in the game against Chelsea where they have restricted their London rival to only one shot on target in the 84th minute. Cazorla was superb in the center of the park in his deep-lying playmaker role. The Spanish midfielder was not only good in creating openings for his teammates; he was equally good at breaking down the opposition attack.
The only bad news is that they have lost Coquelin and the French midfielder is likely to miss out a couple of games due to injury. However, with the arrival of Granit Xhaka, they have a more than capable replacement and we will have to see how Arsene Wenger is going to use him in the midfielder. Xhaka is more than just a defensive midfielder and will want to participate in the attack. However, with Cazorla alongside him, this could be a problem as both players tend to play in the same position and have the tendency to play the same kind of pass. Continue reading
Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin remains supremely confident of reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
They need to overcome Olympiakos by more than two goals in order to have any chance of qualification. The task is made tougher since it will be away from home. If it was at the Emirates stadium, Arsenal would have been seen as favourites to get the two goals and complete the job. As it is in Turkey where the home supporters are fanatical, it does get a lot tougher for the gunners.Bellerin is expected to continue in the right back for the gunners.
The 20-year-old has already evolved into one of Arsenal’s important players in the back. The Spanish star has been an ever present in the Premier League by making 13 appearances already.Bellerin continues to remain as one of the few squad members to have not witnessed a game while coming on for the bench. Olympiakos have a three-point advantage and will be able to comfortably go to the next round even with a draw. However, this is likely to provide a few nerves within the team. Arsenal know clearly what they want and the way to get it according toBellerin. Continue reading
The last time that Arsenal won the Premier League title was during the 2003-04 season and ever since then, Arsene Wenger has only managed to put the English club in the top 5 spots of the top tier English league which isn’t bad as this shows consistency from the manager and his players but the fans of the club are tired of seeing them getting so close but just not managing to pull it off.
The next Premier League season kicks off on August 8 and Arsene Wenger has already had some bad news to announce to the supporters of the club and it involves one of their most important as well as influential figures, Alexis Sanchez.
Alexis Sanchez will be missing out from the opening match of the season for Arsenal. Arsene Wenger talked during a press conference in Asia and said: “He’ll be back with us on Aug. 3 and it takes about three weeks to competitive. It could take him a little bit less time to get match fit but he’ll miss our first game.”
One of the main reasons of why Arsenal in the past few years have just not been capable on making it through an entire season in full force and pull off a Premier League win is due to injuries as the main stars of the team have had to miss out from a significantly large period of time and this has already started to affect the squad of Arsene Wenger.
