Luiz Suarez is to open talks with Arsenal over a potential move, though Liverpool are demanding £50m from the Gunners for their star man, the Express understands.
The Reds are determined to keep hold of the Uruguay striker, who may now consider handing in an official transfer request after the North London clubs offer of £40m plus £1 was rejected.
That fee is thought to have triggered a clause in Suarez’s contract with means Liverpool have to inform the player of the offer.
The 26 year old played for the Liverpool for the first time since he received a ten match suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, coming on for eighteen minutes of the club’s friendly against Melbourne Victory yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are still hopeful of securing a deal for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
The Brazilian international had also been linked with a move to Napoli, though the Italian side have instead secured a year-long loan deal for Liverpool’s Pepe Reina.
Napoli have also completed the signing of former Gunners target Gonzalo Higuain, who passed a medical with the club on Wednesday.
The Argentina striker is expected to be unveiled by the Serie A runners-up this afternoon (Thursday).
