Arsenal have been boosted by reports that Luis Suarez would be willing to remain in England, Sky Sports understands.
The Uruguay international has previously cited the English media as one of the reasons for him wanting to leave Liverpool, making Real Madrid the favourites with the bookmakers to sign the 26 year old.
The Gunners have seen one bid for the controversial striker rejected by Liverpool, though they are reportedly planning an improved offer.
Meanwhile, Napoli have entered the race to sign Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to the Express.
The Serie A side are on the verge of receiving around £55m from the expected sale of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint Germain, and will be looking to reinvest some of that money for a replacement for the striker.
Rafael Benitez’s side are also battling with the Gunners to sign Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar, though the Championship club have denied that they have received any offers for the Brazil international.
Elsewhere, Roma have reportedly bid £6.9m for Ivory Coast international Gervinho.
The forward has been heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer after he made just twelve starts in the Premier League last season.
