Sherwood Believes Odegaard Will Extend Arsenal Stay On One Condition

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard who is currently on loan at the Emirates from Real Madrid has started to show just how much of a quality player he is following the performances he has been putting on display for the Gunners in some of their recent games. The Norwegian midfielder joined Arsenal from the Santiago Bernabeu in the last summer transfer window on deadline day but had his debut put on hold by manager Mikel Arteta who wanted the young midfielder to have some time to adapt to the English league.

Since playing a couple of games consecutively, the 22-year-old has flourished well and is currently enjoying his football at the club. His fine form has been both good and bad news for Arsenal fans, however, because while he has been helping the Gunners to win games recently, he is also giving his parent club Madrid more reasons for them to recall him frol his loan time at the club when the contract expires.

Arsenal fans surely want the 22-year-old to sig a permanent deal at the club, but with Zinedine Zidane not willing to allow one of Madrid’s brightest prospects to leave the club on a permanent basis, it will be hard to think of Odegaard as a future star for Arsenal.

Following Arsenal’s continued progress in this season’s UEFA Europa League, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has said that he believes Odegaard will sign a permanent contract at Arsenal if the club can clinch the Europa League trophy this season. Sherwood said it is almost impossible for Arsenal to make it into the top four in the Premier League, which means that their only chance of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season is if they win the Europa League trophy.

According to Sherwood, Arsenal’s ability to keep hold of the player will be highly dependent on them sealing qualification to play UCL football next season.
