Podolski double inspires Arsenal to victory at Fulham

Arsenal grabbed their first points of the new Premier League season courtesy of 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage Saturday lunchtime.

Olivier Giroud scored for the third game in row to give the Gunners the lead on fourteen minutes, while efforts either side of half time from Lukas Poldolski put the result beyond doubt.

Darren Bent came off the bench for his Fulham debut to hit a late consolation for the hosts, who fall to eleventh place while the Gunners, who will now turn their attention to Sunday afternoon’s North London derby, have propelled themselves up to eighth.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have told Arsenal that they will need to cough up a £20m for midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to the Metro.

The France international was the subject of a £10m offer from the Gunners a week ago; a bid that was rejected out of hand by the North East club.

The 27 year old pulled himself out of Newcastle’s opening two games of the season, drawing criticism from fans and pundits alike, and is almost certain to become Arsene Wenger’s latest in a long line of French players to join the club, but only if he matches the Magpies valuation.
