Oxlade-Chamberlain out for six weeks

Arsenal will be without midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for this evening’s Champions League play-off first leg against Fenerbache.

The 20 year old injured his knee in Saturday’s defeat to Aston Villa and will be out of action for up to six weeks though defenders Bacaray Sagna, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal should all be available for selection.

The winners of the tie, which concludes with the return leg at the Emirates on Tuesday, will enter the Champions League group stage, while the losers will enter the Europa League at the group stage.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye is keen on securing a move to Arsenal, Sky Sports understands.

The Gunners saw a £10m bid for the France international rejected earlier this week, and criticised for its timing but are likely to return with an improved offer in due course.

The 27 year old has three years remaining on his contract with the North East club, who he joined from Lille two years ago.

Elsewhere, Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins is adamant that both Michu and Ashley Williams are not for sale, according to the Mail Online.

Arsenal are said to be planning a £35m double bid for the pair, who were instrumental in the Welsh sides trophy winning 2012/13 campaign.
