Per Mertersacker has revealed that Arsene Wenger asked for his opinion on signing his international teammate Mezut Ozil, the Express understands.
The pair, who also played together in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, were reunited at club level last week after the Gunners paid Real Madrid £42.5m for Ozil’s services.
Mertesacker went on to admit that the Arsenal manager wanted to take the midfielder to the Emirates before he moved to Spain back in 2010.
Elsewhere, Wojciech Sczcesney has admitted that Wenger was right to drop him last season, according to the Metro.
The 23 year old was axed from the first team towards the end of last season following a drop in form, and replaced by fellow Polish international Lukasz Fabianski,
Sczcesny has since re-established himself as the Gunners first choice goalkeeper, and has admitted that his spell on the bench was beneficial in order for his to kick start his game.
Meanwhile, Barcelona defender Martin Montoya is reportedly interested in securing a move to the Premier League when his contract expires at the end of the season, according to the Express.
Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to have been linked with the 22 year old, who started just fifteen times in La Liga in the three seasons previous to this campaign.
