Arsenal would be a relieved and happy unit to know that they don’t have to depend on anyone else now for their qualification to the European Cup knockouts.
After losing three out of their first four games, Arsenal had got into a situation where they had to hope for Bayern Munich to get the better of Olympiacos for them to remain alive in the tournament.
To the fortune of the Gunners, Bayern won and thereafter, the Londoners themselves also managed to hand a 3-0 thumping to Dinamo Zagreb which took their points’ tally to 6. Now, all that is needed for Arsenal is a win in the last game and they would be through to the pre quarter final round. There is no dependence on the results of the matches of other teams. A fans poll on the website shows that many fans still think that Arsenal can do it.
According to Petr Cech, Arsenal’s first choice shot stopper, it’s a pretty good situation to be in now in comparison to what it was prior to the Dinamo match.
Speaking to the Himmel Spill, Cech said, “We were indeed hoping for Bayern to do well, but, we had to focus on our own game too. It’s fantastic that everything went the way we would have liked. Now, it’s a do-or-die situation on Wednesday and we will put our best efforts. Hopefully, we get through.”
Arsenal will be playing against Olympiacos in the Wednesday’s fixture at Karaiskakis Stadium situated in Piraeus. The Greek club, currently at the last position in Group F, will definitely be the favourite having the support of the home crowd and Arsenal will have to perform out of the skins to come out on top over there.
Arsenal had lost to Olympiacos when they had taken them on at home in September. It was a pretty close game and the margin of defeat was of just one goal.
