Arsenal are reportedly set to raid Barcelona with their £70 million transfer kitty in the summer, with as many as three players on Arsene Wenger’s radar.
However, the Express fail to mention David Villa in the piece, which links forward Alexis Sanchez, defender Martin Montoya and former Gunners midfielder Alex Song with moves to North London.
Montoya has started just five league games this season, whilst Sanchez, who has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Inter Milan is reportedly unsettled at the Nou Camp. Song hasn’t really adjusted to Spanish football, and was even named in a poll the worst foreign buy of last summer.
Meanwhile, defender Per Mertesacker has rubbished reports that he is set to leave the Emirates, according to Sky Sports.
The 28 year old has been linked with a return to his home country with Wolfsburg said to be interested.
Mertesacker has started all but four of the Gunners league games this season, and could win his 87th international cap in Friday’s World Cup Qualifier against Kazakhstan.
Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has told the Express that he is keen to keep midfielder Ryo Miyaichi for next season.
The Japan international has made four substitute appearances for the Latics this campaign, but is out for the rest of the season after having surgery on an ankle injury which he sustained in the 3-0 win over Everton in the FA Cup earlier this month.
