Gunners planning Benzema bid

Arsenal are continuing to prepare a move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzama, the Mirror understands.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen to bring in another striker when the transfer window reopens in January, with Nicklas Bendtner currently the only available back up to first choice forward Olivier Giroud.

France international Benzema is thought to be the Gunners top target, and Wenger has been asked to be kept informed on any developments with his situation.

The 25 year old, whose contract at the Bernabeu expires in eighteen months, has 61 goals in 136 La Liga appearances for the Spanish giants.

Meanwhile, Per Mertersacker is set to be offered a new contract at the Emirates, according to the Mail Online.

The Germany international, 29, has just eighteen months remaining on his current deal with the club, and Wenger is keen to get him signed up for a longer period.

He and Laurent Koscielny have formed a solid central-defensive partnership, helping club to an impressive league run this calendar year.

The North London club have lost just five from thirty top-flight games in 2013, and currently sit proudly on top of the Premier League having taken twenty-five points from thirty-three available this season.
