Gunners leave it late to beat Cardiff

Arsenal left it late against Cardiff City on New Year’s Day to secure the three points that keeps them in first place in the Premier League.

Substitute Nicklas Bendtner made the breakthrough two minutes from time before Theo Walcott made absolutely sure of the victory with a chip three minutes into stoppage time.

However, Bendtner was injured whilst scoring his goal, and now looks set to be side-lined for the near future.
Manchester City and Chelsea kept pressure on the league leaders with victory’s at Swansea City and Southampton respectively.

Liverpool moved back into the top four after taking all three points from their match against Hull City, while Everton slip to fifth after drawing with Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur leapfrogged Manchester United into sixth following their second successive win at Old Trafford.

The Gunners will now turn their attention to Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup third round clash with North London rivals Spurs, before returning to league action at Aston Villa nine days later.

Elsewhere, following Bendtner’s knock and the injury to Olivier Giroud, the club are considering a move for Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to the Mirror.

The 32 year old is reportedly keen to move on now the transfer window has reopened.
