Gunners given Wilshere boost

After suffering that shock 1-0 defeat to Norwich at the weekend, Arsenal fans certainly needed something to smile about this week. Fortunately, it looks like there is some positive news already, after Jack Wilshere managed to play 90 minutes for the Under 21 side on Monday afternoon.

Many supporters were hit with a bout of optimism prior to the Norwich game on Saturday, after rumours started to suffice that Wilshere was going to be named in Arsene Wenger’s squad. However, while that did prove to be the case, the midfielder didn’t manage to make an appearance and instead stayed on the bench.

Fortunately, it looks as though he is still making progress and it might not be too long before the England international manages to force his way into the first team. Wenger’s decision to utilise the player in the Under 21 squad certainly seemed to pay dividends, with Wilshere showing glimpses of the form that made him into such a starlet before his fitness problems. He played a big part in both goals as the Gunners’ youth team earned a 2-1 win – although the main thing is the fact he came through 90 minutes completely unscathed.

Of course, while all of the above is very promising, there’s no doubt that Wenger will try and ease Wilshere back to fitness as slowly as possible. Few fans will forget that the midfielder has been out of action for almost 15 months and considering the fact he is still only 20-years-old, the last thing the club needs is to jeopardise his career.

In other news, there was also a boost in relation to Emmanuel Frimpong and Bacary Sagna. Both players also featured for the Under 21 squad and just like Wilshere, it was also a very successful outing for these two.
