Gibbs called up for England duty

Kieran Gibbs has been called up to the England squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland after Ashley Cole was ruled out with a rib injury, Sky Sports understands.

The defender has not made and international appearance since he won his second cap in a friendly defeat to France three years ago, and will battle with Leighton Baines for the left-back slot.

The 24 year old has played in all seven of the Gunners league games this season, having spent two spells on the side-lines last year.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song would consider a return to the Emirates having struggled to hold down a first team place at Barcelona, according to the Daily Star.

The 26 year old made the switch to La Liga last summer, but has started just twenty league games.

He is reportedly a target for Manchester United, and would also contemplate reuniting with manager Arsene Wenger, according to reports in Spain.

Elsewhere, out-of-favour striker Park Chu-Young is being lined up for a loan move to Wigan Athletic, the Mirror understands.

The Korea Republic international has played just six minutes of Premier League football since joining Arsenal from Monaco two years ago, and spent the majority of last season in La Liga with Celta Vigo.
