Following a return of just two points and zero goals through the first two Premier League games, it is understandable to see some Gunners supporters starting to show frustrations with the team. However, Arsenal duo Gervinho and Mikel Arteta have urged supporters to show some patience, with the latter going as far as saying that the players are sick of hearing about how the club miss Robin Van Persie.
Even though Arsene Wenger has brought in several attacking players such as Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla, the Gunners have struggled immensely in front of goal and have consequently started the new campaign with successive goalless draws. Unsurprisingly, such a lack of cutting edge has brought plenty of attention on Robin Van Persie’s departure, although this is apparently irritating the squad.
According to former Everton midfielder Arteta, supporters should try and forget about RVP and instead concentrate on the new-look Gunners. He said, “All the talk about Robin all of the time… you can get frustrated. [Cazorla] is comfortable in that position, that free role. He has a lot of talent you can see how good he is on the ball. Lukas [Podolski] looked really good on the left today, he was cutting in and causing problems. He had a couple of chances. We need to give them a bit of time.”
Meanwhile, Gervinho has said that the Emirates Stadium faithful need to show more patience to French striker Olivier Giroud. Even though the 25-year-old has had little time to make an impact, many supporters have already forged an opinion on him.
According to Gervinho, the player should be given more time to adjust to English football with the Ivory Coast international saying, “He will not resolve the problems immediately. He needs a little time. If the coach signed him for Arsenal, it means that he has qualities.”
