Cazorla inspires Gunners to victory

Two goals from Santi Cazorla gave Arsenal victory against struggling Aston Villa, to end a turbulent week at the Emirates on a high.

The Gunners, who made four changes from Tuesday evening’s Champions League defeat to Bayen Munich, took the lead after just six minutes after Cazorla’s low hit strike went in off the post.

Despite dominating possession, poor defending led to a second half equaliser from Andreas Weimann, though Cazorla secured victory five minutes from time after converting Nacho Monreal’s cross.

The result moves Arsene Wenger’s men to within a point of fourth place Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the North London derby next weekend, though Spurs do have a game in hand at West Ham United this evening.

However, Wenger has claimed that his side could even usurp third place Chelsea, who are just two points ahead of Arsenal after losing to second place Manchester City yesterday afternoon. City, who are nine points clear of the Gunners, are also “not out of reach”, according to the Frenchman.

Elsewhere, the Daily Express has reported that the club could make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the summer.

Cabaye, who netted a penalty in yesterday’s 4-2 victory over Southampton, would reportedly cost £15 million.
