Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he plans to make Jack Wilshere the new captain, once Per Mertesacker hangs up his boots at the end of the season. Mertesacker has mostly been on the bench during his final season in professional football, and this has earned Wilshere the captain’s armband at times when Laurent Koscielny is on the sidelines.

Mesut Ozil claims that he has become a better player since he made the switch from Real Madrid five years ago. The German became the most expensive signing for Arsenal back in 2013 when he made the £42 million switch from the Spanish club. He made an instant impact at Emirates after contributing in nine assists and five goals in just 26 league appearances in the 2013-14 campaign.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated his ambition of keeping hold of midfielder Jack Wilshere, whose current deal expires at the end of the season. The England international is apparently in a contract standoff with the Gunners over an alleged pay-cut, but the manager remains hopeful of committing him to an extension beyond the summer.
ESPN Pundit Steve Nicol feels Petr Cech will stay put with Arsenal for another season at the least. The 35-year-old has produced a mixed performance in the Gunners shirt this term, and there has already been talk of him being replaced in the summer.
Speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol admits that the former Czech international is no longer dependable to produce ‘miraculous saves’ between the sticks, but he is still more capable in goal ahead of back-up shot-stopper David Ospina, he said: “I still believe in Petr Cech myself, he’s solid.
Arsene Wenger went on to defend his team in the 3-3 draw at Liverpool. The Frenchman saw his team go down 1-0 at the break to an early goal from Philippe Coutinho, but the gunners were able to get a valuable point in a 3-3 draw. Still, many saw this as points dropped at home. There were also concerns about Liverpool’s defence since they had allowed a lead to go away. Roberto Firmino came up with a late equaliser in order to make sure that Arsenal were unable to win this for match. Up until that point, Arsenal were on a high after having overturned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 position.
Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka, and Mesut Ozil were the players who turned down the mood for Arsenal. Wenger was asked about the possibility of running down the time and holding onto the lead, as the gunners failed to do both in a critical situation. Firmino was able to come up with an equaliser in the 71st minute. Goals from Coutinho and Mohamed Salah were crucial in putting Liverpool ahead in the game. This poor result means that Arsenal have been able to take just a single win – a close 1-0 win over Newcastle – in the recent league match.
TalkSPORT pundit Joey Barton feels Arsenal supporters have something to worry about as Arsene Wenger could potentially be sacked from the head coach role. The 67-year-old signed a fresh two-year extension earlier in May after he guided the Gunners to their third FA Cup title in four seasons. The north London giants missed out on Champions League qualification with a fifth-placed finish last term, and they have started the new campaign in a relatively slow fashion with just 13 points from the opening eight games.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Barton believes it is only a matter of time before the Gunners’ hierarchy decide to cut ties with the long-standing manager. The former Burnley midfielder also compared the Frenchman‘s situation at the Emirates to one of a late night reveller.

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette has heaped praise on academy graduate Reiss Nelson stating that he has the potential to become a top player for the club.
The 17-year-old made a cameo appearance in the 3-1 Europa League win over Koln earlier this month, and he is in line to make his full debut in the third round League Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday night.
Lacazette, who is the Gunners’ record signing, is among those who are expecting the teenager to achieve big things at the Emirates, he said: “I think Reiss is very good. I believe he will be a top player for the club. He already impressed me during preseason and it’s great to see what he’s been doing for the under-23s.”
Nelson was promoted to the Under 23 side earlier in the summer, and he has since excelled with the development squad, netting six goals in a short period of time. As a result, his performances were recognised as he was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for August. Continue reading
It’s been a fairy-tale start to life in the Premier League for new Arsenal full-back Sead Kolasinac.
His swashbuckling displays, rampaging up and down the field, have made him an instant hit with the Arsenal faithful.
Gunners boss, Arsene Wenger, fended off competition from a whole host of clubs including Manchester City to get the Bosnian’s signature in the summer. He is one reportedly one of the top earners at the Emirates pulling in a cool £140,000 a week.
That eye-popping wage has made him a target of criticism from his former club, Schalke in the German Bundesliga. The story is that Schalke desperately wanted to keep him but would not allow themselves to be dictated to by Kolasinac and his exorbitant wage demands.
They say they were forced to let him go as a result of his demands and are refusing to let the matter lie. Kolasinac was voted the best left-back in Germany last season and Schalke believe all the adulation and acclaim got to Kolasinac’s head. Continue reading
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has come in the defence of countryman Mesut Ozil, who was deemed a liability by club legend Steven Gerrard last week.
The Germany international had one of his not so impressive performances for Arsenal last weekend as the club succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City. While there were a few players who failed to show up, Ozil was once again made the scapegoat for the showing with BT Sport pundits Gerrard and Martin Keown criticising the World Cup winner.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of the Arsenal game, Klopp was full of praise for his compatriot who he feels is ‘an outstandingly skilled boy’. He added that the 28-year-old remains a player to watch for during Sunday’s game whilst insisting that the attacker is treated in a different way back in Germany.
He said: “I remember the 3-3 we played against Arsenal here. Without Ozil and Olivier Giroud, we would have won 3-0. One long ball, Giroud gave it to Mesut and it was five players on him, no chance. He is an outstandingly skilled boy. I don’t watch Arsenal often enough to be right to have an opinion about it. If people are not happy with him, I don’t know why. ‘There is no doubt in Germany about the quality of Mesut Ozil. Germany is really blessed with a lot of world-class players in his position and he is a fix in the German national team, so that should be a sign.” Continue reading
