While some players may be wary about new signings coming into the club and creating competition, Gunners midfielder Mikel Arteta appears to have welcomed the acquisition of Santi Cazorla. The former Everton man has praised his fellow countryman’s skills and stated that he will fit perfectly into the type of system that Arsenal play.
Cazorla signed for a reported £15m a couple of days ago and many have heaped the praise on Arsene Wenger for pulling off such a signing. The Spaniard has been regarded as one of the most exciting players in his home country over recent years and were it not for the immense competition in Spain’s midfield, many believe that the 27-year-old would have earned more than the forty five caps he currently has to his name.
Even though the Gunners’ style of football can be described as being almost identical to that which Spain play, Arteta is the only other existing player to have played in the Spanish leagues in his career. Bearing this in mind, the player knows plenty about Wenger’s newest recruit and told the press that he is hugely excited about his impact on the team.
He said, “Technically he is very gifted, he can play wide in both positions and through the middle as well. He is tricky and has two good feet – in fact I could not say whether he is right or left-footed. He will bring us good experience and something different. He will be a good addition to the team. I am convinced he will make a big impact. The way that we play at Arsenal really suits his qualities and hopefully he will be very successful.”
Arteta has also commented on the terrific morale in the squad at the moment, which will certainly bode well amongst supporters considering all of the unsettling news about Robin Van Persie this summer.
