Arsenal up to second following Chelsea draw

Arsenal were unable to reclaim top spot after drawing 0-0 with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium yesterday evening.

The visitors best effort came in the first half when Frank Lampard hit the woodwork, while Olivier Giroud squandered two good efforts that, if converted, would have seen the Gunners reclaim top spot.

The clean sheet was only the second the Blues have kept in their past twelve league games, while it was only the second time Arsenal had failed to score in the league all season.

Arsene Wenger’s men will return to first place if they win at West Ham United on Boxing Day, while the then travel to Newcastle United at the weekend before hosting Cardiff City on January 1st.

Meanwhile, Wellington Silva is close to securing the relevant documentation which will allow him to finally work his way into the Arsenal first team, according to Sky Sports.

The Brazilian starlet moved to North London from Fluminese in 2010, but has spent all his time since out on loan, first with Levante, then Alcoyano and on to Ponferradina.

He currently is with Real Murcia in the Spanish Segunda Division, where he has failed to score in fourteen appearances, though all but two of those have come as a substitute.
