Arsenals have risen to fifth place in the Premier League following a narrow victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Santi Cazorla’s 35th minute strike was enough to give the Gunners the three points, though some gloss was taken of the result after Carl Jenkinson was sent off for a second bookable offence just after the hour mark.
Jenkinson only started due to Laurent Koscielny injuring his calf in the warm up, though the French defender is likely to be fit in time for Tuesday evening’s visit of Bayern Munich.
Jack Wilshere, who limped off after 50 minutes on Saturday afternoon after a tackle from Alfred N’Diaye, should return within a week after it was confirmed that any damage done was superficial.
Meanwhile Thomas Vermaelen, who missed out at the weekend may also sit out of the midweek Champions League clash. If so, Bacary Sagna could well continue in the centre of defence.
Elsewhere, Andre Santos looks set to join Gremio in his native Brazil, on loan until the end of the season.
The left-back has fallen out of favour at the Emirates, having made just thirteen league starts since signing from Fenerbache for £6.2 million eighteen months ago.
