Arsenal came from a goal down to beat West Ham United 5-1, and close the gap between themselves and fourth placed Tottenham Hotspur to just four points.

Jack Collison gave the visitors the lead on 18 minutes before Lukas Podolski, returning from illness, equalised just four minutes later.

Olivier Giroud gave the hosts the lead shortly after half time before Santi Cazorla’s back heel made it 3-1 soon after.

Two more goals in quick succession from Theo Walcott, and a second for Giroud put the result beyond doubt and secured a first victory of 2013 for Arsene Wenger’s men.

It was the fifth time the Gunners have scored five or more goals in a league game this season, taking their overall tally to 46, a record only bettered by Chelsea and Manchester United.

In the post-match interview, Wenger stated that there was no news on potential transfers, joking that he had to cut the press conference short as he had to “do some work”.

However, the club remain strongly linked with Celtic midfielder Victor Manyana, Barcelona striker David Villa and West Ham midfielder Mohammed Diame, who came on for the final twenty minutes of last night’s game at the Emirates.
