Arsenal have moved back to the top of the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the West Midlands yesterday evening.
First half goals from Jack Wilshere and the returning Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners a comfortable first half lead before Christian Benteke added a consolation for the hosts fifteen minutes from time with his first goal in four months.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on to replace the injured Tomas Rosicky five minutes from time to make his first appearance since Arsenal lost to Villa at the Emirates on the opening day of the season.
Arsene Wenger’s men are once again a point clear of second place Manchester City, and two clear of Chelsea in third – both of whom won at the weekend.
They will now turn their attention to the visit of struggling Fulham on Saturday afternoon, where they will look to secure a sixth straight victory.
Elsewhere, Championship side Nottingham Forest are set to offer Jamaal Lascelles a new contract in an attempt to stave of interest from Premier League suitors.
Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to be linked with the highly rated centre-back, who has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the second tier.
