Arsenal outclassed by Bayern

Arsenal must overturn a two goal lead when they travel to Bayern Munich in a fortnight’s time, after they lost the first leg of their Champions League last sixteen tie by three goals to one.

Toni Kroos gave the visitors the lead on seven minutes after the Gunners defence failed to pick him up on the edge of the area, before Thomas Muller doubled their advantage soon after.

Former Bayern man Lukas Podolski pulled one back for the hosts ten minutes into the second half, before Mario Mandzukic secured victory for the Bundesliga leaders with a half-hit shot late on.

The result seems to have all but ended the clubs hopes of clinching silverware for the first time in eight seasons, with focus turning immediately to their pursuit of a top four finish in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger’s men host lowly Aston Villa on Saturday, with the opportunity of closing the gap on rivals Tottenham Hotspur to a point; with Spurs facing West Ham United on Monday evening, whilst the North London derby takes place the following weekend.

Meanwhile, Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet is the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a move to the Emirates.
The Sun claim that both Arsenal and Manchester United want the Belgian international, who has kept nine clean sheets in the league this season.
