Arsenal out of Capital One Cup

Arsenal have crashed out of the Capital One Cup after losing 2-0 to four times winners Chelsea at the Emirates yesterday evening.

Goals from Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata secured the victory for the Blues, who currently sit two points and one place below them in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger’s men will now turn their attention to Saturday evening’s clash with Liverpool, where they will be hoping to strengthen their position at the top of the division.

Menawhile, the Mail Online understands that Lukas Podolski is nearing ever closer to a first team return after the Germany international was pictured smiling widely in training.

The 28 year old has not featured since limping of during the Gunners’ 2-0 win over Fenerbache in the second leg of their Champions League qualifier.

His return will be welcomed by manager Arsene Wenger, who currently has just Olivier Giroud and Niclas Bendtner as his only two fit forwards.

Finally, the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award has been announced.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil joins the likes of four time winner Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale on the list, with the winner set to be announced in Zurich on January 13th.

Arsene Wenger is also on the shortlist for Coach of the Year.
