Arsenal out for Reds revenge in cup clash

Arsenal will be hoping to make amends for last weekend’s thrashing at the hands of Liverpool as they take on the Reds at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Arsene Wenger is likely to select his side with one eye on Wednesday evening’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, though Kim Kallstrom, Theo Walcott Aaron Ramsey and Abou Diaby are definitely out injured.

Santi Cazorla may also miss the game through illness, though Thomas Vermaelen could play for the first time since the third round win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Gunners fans will need no reminding what happened the last time the sides faced each other, but will have fonder memories of their previous meeting in the cup, with Arsenal running out 3-1 winners at Anfield in the third round of the 2006/07 competition, with goals coming from Tomas Rosicky (2) and Thierry Henry.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph understands that the club have been linked with a move for Ashley Cole, who looks set to call time on his eight year spell with Chelsea at the end of the season.

The left-back left Arsenal for the Blues in controversial circumstances in 2006, but reports suggest that he could be in line for a sensational return after losing his place in Jose Mourinho’s side.
