Arsenal manager pleased with stalemate against Liverpool

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that he is pleased with the performance of his team during Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw versus Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners had come into the game with a 13-match unbeaten run across all competitions and they managed to stay competent with the Reds for the entire 90 minutes.

Both teams had equal chances to find the scoresheet in the first period and it was James Milner who opened the scoring for the Reds before the hour mark after a slight misjudgement from goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Thereafter, the Gunners picked up pace to find the equaliser and they eventually levelled the scores in the final 10 minutes after a brilliant curling effort from Alexandre Lacazette shortly after beating Alisson Becker to the ball.

Speaking after the game, Emery was pleased with the showing of the team and admitted that the game could have gone either way on the day, he said: “I am happy with our performance. I think the balance in 90 minutes is more positive in the control against them, but it’s difficult not to let them have chances also. You need a little luck in some moments in the match and when we are attacking we need to find our goal. The result in the end is 1-1 and I think it is a good result after we were losing 1-0. We could have lost in one moment and in the 90 minutes we could have won also.”

With the draw, the Gunners have now remained unbeaten since the second matchday of the Premier League but they have dropped to the fourth position on the table after Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 on the road. Next up, the Gunners are scheduled to face Sporting at the Emirates Stadium and a win should seal their progress to the last 32 stage with the top position pretty much sealed.
