The Express have reported that Arsenal have opened talks with Victor Valdes agent over the possibility of signing the Spaniard in the summer.
Valdes, who played in Barcelona’s 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena, has confirmed that he will seek a new challenge at the end of the season, with the Emirates one of a number of potential destinations.
The La Liga leaders are thought to be holding out for a fee in the region of £10 million, though Arsenal believe they may be able to pay around half of that figure due to the 31 year olds contract situation.
Elsewhere in Spain, following reports that the Gunners will link up with Real Betis in a “collaborative agreement”, the La Liga side have been linked with moves for a host of players out of favour at the Emirates.
Reports in Spain suggest that Emmanuel Frimpong, Francis Coquelin, Johan Djourou and Maroune Chamakh are all on Betis’s shortlist, while the club also want to take Joel Campbell on loan for a second season.
Finally, Arsenal have failed with the appeal over the red card shown to Olivier Giroud in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The striker will now miss the clubs final four games of the season, starting with the visit of champions Manchester United on Sunday.
