Arsenal have reportedly joined the race to sign Swansea City and Wales captain Ashley Williams.
The Daily Mail claim that the Gunners are tussling with Liverpool for the signature of the centre back, who recently skippered Michael Laudrop’s men to League Cup glory.
The 28 year old, who has been one of the Welsh club’s star players this term, would cost around £8 million.
The same report also links the club with Real Madrid defender Raul Albiol, whose chances with the Spanish champions have been limited due to the partnership of Raphael Varene and Sergio Ramos.
Elsewhere, the club appear to be battling with rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Feyenord’s highly rated defensive midfielder Jordy Clasie.
The 21 year old, who has been labelled the Dutch Xavi, has been ever present for Ronald Koeman’s men this season, and won the first of three international caps in a World Cup Qualifier last September.
Elsewhere, England Under 21 boss Stuart Pearce has confirmed that Jack Wilshere will not be part of his squad for the European Championships in June.
The Daily Star has reported that Roy Hodgson has overruled Pearce, with the coach of the senior team keen to include the Gunners midfielder for the friendly in Brazil on June 2nd.
