Arsenal in for Rooney?

Arsenal are one of the sides to have been linked with a possible move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, after the striker reportedly announced his desire to leave the Champions.

The Gunners are thought to be locked in a battle with Chelsea to sign Rooney, 27, who has also been linked with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

The England international’s future at Old Trafford has been under scrutiny throughout the second half of this season, with doubts originally being raised following his absence from the starting line-up of United’s Champions League last sixteen second leg against Real Madrid.

The former Everton man is also said to be frustrated at being played out of position, with former Gunner Robin Van Persie being used as the clubs first choice centre forward.

Meanwhile, the club will also reportedly battle with Chelsea for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy.

The 22 year old has been the Latic’s stand out player in a disappointing league campaign, that looks likely to end in relegation though the will contest tomorrows FA Cup final with Manchester City.

Elsewhere, Borussia Dortmund right-back Lukasz Piszczek has also been linked with a move to the Emirates, with Bacary Sagna looking increasingly likely to move on.
