Arsenal are considering making a bid for West Ham United defender Winston Reid when the transfer window reopens in January, the Metro understands.
Manager Arsene Wenger is on the lookout for defensive cover, with captain Thomas Vermaelen looking likely to leave the club before too long.
Reid, 25, has established himself as one of the most consistent centre-backs in the top flight over the past eighteen months, and will reportedly cost around £6m.
Meanwhile, Gunners’ target Lars Bender has signed a new long-term deal with Bayer Leverkusen, according to the Metro.
The North London club had an £18.5m bid for the Germany international rejected in the summer, and were expected to reignite their interest in January, though the 24 year old has committed himself to the Bundesliga club until 2019.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have been told they will have to pay upwards of £10m for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, the Daily Star understands.
It was thought that the 21 year old had signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona, though the Catalan club haven’t put up the cash.
Wenger is keen to bring in further competition for Wojciech Szczesny, despite to Poland international starting this campaign in sublime form.
