Robin Van Persie denied former club Arsenal all three points on his return to the Emirates Stadium yesterday afternoon.
Theo Walcott had given the Gunners a lead after just two minutes, following a mistake from Van Persie, who lost possession seconds before the England internationals composed finish.
The former Arsenal captain was then booked on twenty-eight minutes following his foul on Per Mertesacker, but the Dutchman made amends just before the break when he emphatically dispatched a spot kick awarded after he himself was brought down by Bacary Sagna.
The point keeps Arsene Wenger’s men in fourth place with three games remaining, all against sides in the bottom five of the division starting with next weekend’s trip to relegated Queens Park Rangers.
Meanwhile, another of the clubs former captains have been linked with return to the Emirates, after the Daily Star have reported that Barcelona could be willing to part company with Cesc Fabregas.
The midfielder, who is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2016 was sold by Arsenal to the Catalan giants in the summer of 2011 for around £35million, but could be sold as the La Liga leaders look to rebuild their side for next season.
