Arsenal eyeing Wanyama

Arsenal proved that they are still keen on Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama, with the club sending scouts to watch his performance in their Champions League clash with Juventus yesterday evening.

The club look set to make a defensive midfielder their priority when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.

They have also been linked with Mohammed Diame of West Ham United, though Wanyama, who has impressed in the Scottish giants route to the last sixteen of Europe’s top competiton, is thought to be their number one target.

Meanwhile, despite Theo Walcott’s wishes to lead the line, the club have also been linked with a host of strikers as Arsene Wenger looks to provide competition for summer signings Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski.

With Barcelona striker David Villa currently been treated for kidney stones, Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic seems to be the front runner, though the name of Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke has been thrown into the ring.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are all also said to be interested in the Belgian, who has bagged fifteen goals for a struggling Villa side this term.

Finally, Chuba Akpom opened and ended the scoring in Arsenal U21’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Elite Group stage of the U21’s Barclay’s Premier League yesterday evening.
