Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League were knocked as they only managed a goalless draw with Everton at the Emirates last night.
The game was fairly even, with the hosts just edging it in terms of possession, and they will feel that they should have had a man advantage, though Darron Gibson failed to be dismissed following a cynical challenge on Theo Walcott having already been booked.
The Gunners remain in third position, though that will change if Chelsea beat Fulham at Craven Cottage this evening, while Arsenal’s next game is at the same stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the club appear to have taken the lead over Liverpool in the race to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams, after it was revealed the Gunners held talks with representatives of the Wales captain last week.
The 28 year old, who has been of the stand out players since Swansea established themselves in the Premier League, as well as starring in their victorious League Cup run, is thought to be valued at £12 million.
The news will be welcomed by Gunners fans, after it was reported that fellow defensive target Fernando Amorebieta of Athletic Bilbao is on the verge of joining Fulham.
