Arsenal beat Spurs to go fourth

Arsenal secured their fourth win in twelve days after edging past fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates.

Olivier Giroud’s fourth goal of the season was enough to give the Gunners all three points, and bring to an end Spurs’ 100 per-cent start to the season.

Jack Wilshere withdrew shortly before half time, allowing Mathieu Flamini to make his first appearance since re-signing for the club, though it was revealed that the England international was suffering from illness as opposed to injury – news that will be welcomed by Roy Hodgson ahead of the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, the club will now turn their attention to the trip to Sunderland a week on Saturday, by which time they will hope to be joined by a number of new signings.

A whole host of players have been linked with a potential move to the Emirates on transfer deadline day, with Mezut Ozil seemingly the most likely to join up with Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Fellow Real Madrid players Angel Di Maria and Karim Benzama have also been linked with a move to North London, while they may also make one last attempt to sign Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, having failed with a bid last month.
