A Mesut Ozil inspired Arsenal fired themselves to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Stoke City at the Emirates yesterday afternoon.
The Germany international had a hand in all three goals as the club secured a seventh straight win, and leapfrogged Liverpool, who lost at home to Southampton on Saturday.
Aaron Ramsey continued his scoring streak with the first goal of the game after just five minutes, before Geoff Cameron equalised for the visitors.
Per Mertersacker restored the Gunners lead ten minutes later, before Bacaray Sagna put the result beyond doubt in the second half.
Unfortunately, Theo Walcott was unavailable despite being named on the team sheet, as the England international suffered an injury in the lead up to the match, with 18 year old Serge Gnarbry taking his place.
However, Mikel Arteta was able to make a cameo appearance, coming on for the last ten minutes following his recovery from a thigh injury.
The club will now turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s Capital One Cup tie against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.
Their next Premier League game is at Swansea City, where they will be hoping to tighten their grip on top spot.
