Arsenal still keen on Draxler

With the transfer window set to slam shut tomorrow evening, Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to sign Schalke starlet Julian Draxler, the Express understands.

However, it has been reported that the Bundesliga club will consider accepting a £30m bid, under the proviso that they can keep the midfielder for the rest of this season in a deal similar to that which saw Lukas Poldolski arrive from FC Koln eighteen months ago.

Meanwhile, the Express understand that the Gunners are close to agreeing a loan deal for Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic.

The 30 year old has started just four games in Serie A this season having dropped down the pecking order following the summer arrivals of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente.

The Montenegro international is reportedly due in London today for a medical, with a view to him joining Arsene Wenger’s men for the rest of the season.

Elsewhere, the club are battling with Liverpool to secure the services of Barcelona forward Isaac Cuenca, the Mirror understands.

The Spain U21 international, who was last seen playing on loan at Ajax where he made five appearances in a brief spell last season after missing the first half of the campaign nursing a knee injury.
