PSG sporting director arrives in London to discuss move for Alexis Sanchez

Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Antero Henrique is reportedly in the English capital as he looks to finalise a deal for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.

The 28-year-old has been reluctant to extend his contract beyond June 2018, and this has spread speculation over his future in the past few months.

According to Le Parisien, Henrique will try and seal an agreement for Sanchez after having travelled to London to speak with Gunners officials over the player.Wenger has repeatedly stated that Sanchez would remain at the Emirates next season, but Les Parisiens are nevertheless prepared to test the Gunners’ resolve with a €40m bid on the cards.

The Gunners have shown their transfer ambition this summer with the record signing of Alexandre Lacazette, but this does appear sufficient for Sanchez, who is eager to test himself among the Europe’s elite.Arsene Wenger’s side will not be participating in the Champions League for the first time in nearly 20 years, and this seems to have turned the Chilean’s head during this summer’s transfer window.

Apart from Sanchez, Les Parisiens are also weighing up a move for Barcelona’s Neymar, who could cost a staggering fee of around €222m this summer.Paris Saint-Germain have fallen short in their quest to lift the Champions League in recent seasons, and manager Unai Emery is eager to add a world-class forward, who could contribute more goals alongside Edinson Cavani.

Sanchez bagged 30 goals across all competitions for Arsenal last season as they clinched their third FA Cup crown in the last four years. As a result of this feat, he became the first player since Robin van Persie to achieve the 30-goal mark under Wenger. The signing of Alexandre Lacazette is likely to reduce the dependency on Sanchez for the upcoming campaign, he is still crucial to their plans of lifting a long-awaited title.
