Morale not affected by defeats – Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that confidence at the club remains his despite back to back defeats, Sky Sports understands.

The Gunners host Chelsea in a top of the table clash on Monday evening looking to bounce back from their latest disappointment – a 6-3 loss at Manchester City – though Wenger believes that morale has not been affected.

Should Chelsea take all three points, and Manchester City and Liverpool beat Fulham and Cardiff City respectively, Arsenal will slip to fourth place having topped the table for the majority of the season so far.

However, with the other sides in the top four facing each other in the coming weeks, defeat would perhaps not be totally catastrophic.

Jack Wilshere will miss both the match against Chelsea and the trip to West Ham United on Boxing Day after picking up a two-match suspension from the Football Association, according to Sky Sports.

The ban comes after the England international was pictured making an obscene gesture towards home fans in Saturday’s defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Laurent Koscielny is doubtful for Monday evening’s match, the Lukas Poldolski could make his long awaited return to first team action after recovering from a hamstring injury.
