Arsene Wenger Admits Tottenham Are Favourites Ahead of North London Derby

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Tottenham may be the favourites going into the north London derby this weekend, despite Arsenal’s impressive record of finishing above Spurs in each of the last 20 seasons in the Premier league.

Arsenal are looking likely to concede this record, and they trail by a whopping 14 points with just five games left in the campaign. This would be a huge disappointment for Wenger, but the Frenchman has the possibility to change the outcome once again when his team visits White Hart Lane this weekend. Spurs this be feeling the title pressure coming into the match.

Eventhen, Wenger says that there is every possibility that bookmakers will back the home team considering the excellent record when it comes to the home games. Spurs have had wins over Manchester City and Chelsea at this ground. They have been on an extraordinary winning spree in the overall Premier League form table. Arsenal, meanwhile, are facing a losing fight just to finish in the top four.

The club has qualified for the Champions League in each of the last 20 campaigns without fail. Wenger says that the favouritism will not affect the result and that Arsenal will be going out confident of success. There have not been many times when Spurs have come into a north London derby as the favourites.

“It’s certainly one of the few times where, if you look at people’s opinions, Spurs are favourites. It looks a bit like that but it doesn’t matter too much to me. It’s true that always in our press conferences we have to respond, if the worst happens what do you do? You cannot say the weight of one year has the weight of 20. But let’s make sure that the best happens and give absolutely everything to make sure that we finish in a very strong way our season,” said Wenger.
